How much water do you drink every day?

The adult human body is around 60% water, with the brain being 75% water and the lungs nearly 90%. The blood is made up of a large percentage of watery serum. The lymph fluids which transport waste and nutrients around are made from the water we consume and every cell in our body owes its life to an adequate supply of fresh water. When the body does not receive a reliable supply of fresh water it has to ration what is available and cut back on certain functions.

Imagine your body is like a small pond. When you drink fresh water regularly you may pee more but your body is well hydrated and fresh. When you don’t drink enough your body becomes like a stagnant pond. This can have a negative effect on your body making your urine more concentrated, creating headaches and possibly other health issues too.

There is a lot of conflicting advice about what is good to drink as long as we drink plenty. Some experts say it doesn’t matter what we drink as long as we drink regularly. I think if we drink gallons of coke or red bull or tea or coffee or alcohol we are not really looking after ourselves. If the body is made up of mostly water then it makes sense to rehydrate with fresh water.

As we get older we lose the reflex that tells us we are thirsty which is possibly why a lot of elderly people get more urine infections. Also, elderly people don’t like to drink too much because they try to avoid having to go to the loo every 5 minutes.

Your pee should only be yellow and concentrated first thing in the morning. If you are drinking water regularly throughout the day your pee will look clear and this is easy to check. Next time you go for a pee take a good look and see for yourself. What is your body telling you?

I always offer my clients a glass of water after a massage or holistic treatment. This is especially important because after any treatment the body’s lymphatic system has been stirred up and it needs water to flush out the toxins and unwanted chemicals within the body.

I recommend you keep your body hydrated with fresh preferably filtered water. Try avoiding fluoridated water and invest in a good quality water filter.
